The Bible Study – Our reading for Saturday, Jan. 27 is Romans 15:14-33. Pastors must proclaim God’s Word boldly. We do this to share the Word, given as both Law & Gospel. God’s Law, the Ten Commandments, shows us our sins. They are Commandments, not suggestions. The Law curbs evil in society, it is a mirror that shows us our sins, and a guide to how God wants us to live. As imperfect people broken by sin, we can’t fulfill the Law’s demands, so the Commandments drive us to repentance. Thank God the saving Gospel shows us our only Saviour, Jesus Christ. There is salvation in no one else. (Acts 4:12) The Holy Spirit uses the means of grace: God’s Word found in the Bible, and the Sacraments of Baptism & the Lord’s Supper, to work faith in Christ within us. We find these means of grace within the true Church. Nothing less than eternal salvation is at stake.
