DO WE LOOK ABOVE AND SIGH WITHIN LIKE OUR SAVIOUR? "And again, departing from the coasts of Tyre and Sidon, he came unto the sea of Galilee, through the midst of the coasts of Decapolis. And they bring unto him one that was deaf, and had an impediment in his speech; and they beseech him to put his hand upon him.And he took him aside from the multitude, and put his fingers into his ears, and he spit, and touched his tongue; And looking up to heaven, he sighed, and saith unto him, Ephphatha, that is, Be opened. And straightway his ears were opened, and the string of his tongue was loosed, and he spake plain." (Mark 7:31-35)So, there I was in Decapolis today with the Lord Jesus when He healed a deaf and mute man by sticking His fingers in the man's ears, spitting, touching the man's tongue, and commanding it to "Be opened!" The crowd that had gathered around marveled and I heard that most wonderful statement in verse 37: "He hath done all things well." Well, let me tell ya, when I heard those people say that. JOY UNSPEAKABLE filled my heart. Now folks, that's how I like to read my Bible. I enjoy placing myself smack dab in the middle of those great Bible stories. I've been among the crowds when Jesus, Paul, Peter, Stephen, and John the Baptist preached. I've been there when mighty miracles took place which are just too numerous to mention. When ole Lazarus was raised from the dead, I was the one who was leading the cheering. I've read my Bible like that for many years, You should try that sometime and experience the excitement of being there.Okay. let's move on.As I read this portion of Scripture today, that which caught my attention in this passage were those words in verse 34 "And looking up to heaven, he sighed."Concerning this miracle, notice our Lord's upward look and His inward sigh. Yes folks, it is indeed a great encouragement to our faith that our Lord Himself knew what it was to sigh when He saw mankind's sin and the destruction it can very well inflict, and yet, He knew where to look to call down that Mighty Power of God. Too often we sigh and look with complaint at sinners; but Jesus sighed and looked with compassion toward sinners. We sigh, and look down; but Jesus sighed, and looked up. We sigh, and look to earth; but Jesus sighed, and looked to Heaven. We sigh, and look for man's prescription; oh, but Jesus sighed and looked for God's Power.Friends, is there a sigh within your soul when you see the plight of the lost? Do you look to Heaven for Holy Spirit Power and pray for that needy sinner and then witness to them who stand in need of the new birth? I trust each of us will follow the example Jesus gave us here: "And looking to heaven, he sighed,
