The law of the Lord was a law of perfection. In the many tablets that were given to the people, every law was a description of what man would need to do in order to meet the standard of God. God’s nature is one of perfection.
Infirmities and sin are unable to withstand the presence of God because of who He is. It is not that He chases anyone away, no. He does the complete opposite. He draws people closer to Him through His son.
People are able to delight in the law of God when they are in Christ Jesus. When we are in Christ, we are not righteous in our own power. We are made righteous through the blood of Christ and this allows us to view the law with Christ’s eyes.
As sinners, the law of God appears to be oppressive because of the way in which we realize that we are helpless on our own. The reason why the law was unable to be fulfilled by a man in his own power was because of his sinful nature. One cannot attain righteousness through sin. Sin and righteousness cannot coexist.
This is why Jesus had to come to earth, fulfill the law, and set us free from the bondage of sin – so that we could become righteous. Now that we are righteous through Christ Jesus, we are able to look at the law of the Lord with more appreciative eyes.
When Jesus Christ died and resurrected, a new law came into order – the Law of Life. The Law of life is attained through receiving salvation. When we receive salvation, we receive eternal life and it changes our entire spirit beings. We no longer live as ourselves but we live as Jesus Christ because he dwells in us.
The Law of Life is perfect because there is nothing that can taint it. A perfect sacrifice took place so that we could be perfected in God’s eyes. Our souls have been revived from the dead of sin and we can now testify of God’s goodness as His children. The Law of our Lord, Jesus Christ, has brought us into an eternally better standing with God. This is why we call it perfect. This is why we can sing God’s praises. This is why we can look ahead of our lives with hope.
