"Behold Humanity's Gift from Heaven" "And so it was, that, while they were there, the days were accomplished that she should be delivered. And she brought forth her firstborn son, and wrapped him in swaddling clothes, and laid him in a manger; because there was no room for them in the inn." (Luke 2:6-7)The manger bed and its precious Occupant are among the most cherished memories of our childhood; but as we tarry there later in life, the wonder of that miraculous mystery grows. 1 Timothy 3:16 tells us, “And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifest in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen of angels, preached unto the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up into glory."Oh, what a grand company we meet here at Bethlehem that evening in this 2nd chapter of Luke's Gospel. Behold that chosen couple. We find nursing her Blessed Babe is Mary, the young handmaid of the Lord. Next to her, is her husband Joseph, the carpenter and a just man indeed. We hear an angel of the Lord from the realms of Glory preaching a short, but to the point sermon, "...Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord. And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger." (vs. 10-12)All of a sudden, a Heavenly Host can no longer contain themselves and we hear them break forth in praise saying, "Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men." (v.14)Then we listen in and hear some shepherds who said. "...Let us now go even unto Bethlehem, and see this thing, which is come to pass, which the Lord hath made known unto us." (v. 15) See the excitement of those shepherds who were abiding in the field that night keeping watch over their flock now making haste to behold the birth of Heaven's Hallelujah. Finally, there's some people, the "they", who heard the witness of the shepherds, and we see how they responded, "And all they that heard it wondered at those things which were told them by the shepherds." (v.18)And folks, may we never forget, the desire of all nations is there! For it is He, God with us! The infinite One, now an infant, is fast asleep. His name is Jesus and His arrival is here! Galatians 4:4-5 proclaims, "But when the fulness of the time was come, God sent forth his Son, made of a woman, made under the law, To redeem them that were under the law, that we might receive the adoption of sons." Yes, the Son God has arrived to seek and to save that which is lost.Friends, may I ask life's most important question? Has that One Who was born in Bethlehem that night found room in the manger of your heart bringing the promise of peace and the guarantee of goodwill to all men? If so, then sing aloud and give Glory to God in the Highest for the Greatest Gift ever given!
