Major Van Sickle of the Salvation Army was a great soulwinner who worked with alcoholics in Washington, D.C. On one occasion he told an alcoholic: “if you’ll take and read the Gospel of John 50 times, I guarantee you deliverance from alcoholism.”That sure was a bold claim! But the man took the challenge; after reading John, 7 or 8 times, the man got saved. He kept on reading, and before long, he was totally delivered – as Jesus promised, he came to know the truth and the Truth set him free.Sickle said that over a period of 5 years he saw 100 conversions and release from alcoholism by this simple advice: “Read the Gospel of John 50 times and I guarantee you deliverance from this habit.”So, why don’t you pick up the Gospel of John real soon and begin reading it. No man in his right mind would make such claims – that is, unless they were absolutely true!No doubt, these are radical claims!They are as radically different as ‘life’ is from ‘death!’Therefore, no one can truly be ‘in Christ’ and not be changed.For trusting is Christ is as radical as the claims Christ makes.And such radical claims and radical faith can’t help but radically alter a life!How’s it with you? If your life isn’t radically different after salvation, as it was before salvation, perhaps you’ve never met Him!
