I'm not the smartest guy, but I am smart enough to research and verify the claims of others. In a time where I see things I have verified as factual being removed, blocked, or labeled as false by social media I have to wonder why the censorship? Why not let a free exchange of thought and ideas battle in the public eye? There is a quote which is often attributed to Oliver Wendell Holmes, "When the facts are on your side, pound the facts. When the law is on your side, pound the law. When neither is on you side, pound the table." Which means when truth and law aren't on your side then feelings are your last resort. Sadly, in today's world, feelings are the first and only argument made by most. No substantiation is needed. If you feel it, then it is true for you. If anything or anyone challenges or hurts your feelings, then it is wrong and evil. But, what happens when your feelings are just wrong? "The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it?" - Jeremiah 16:12What happens when everyone is justified because they only seek others who agree and avoid any who disagree? Judges 17:6 "In those days there was no king in Israel. Everyone did what was right in his own eyes." Scripture shows everyone doing what was right in their own eyes is a condemnation not a commendation. When my feelings are wrong and someone actively obstructs the presentation of factual challenges that may make me reconsider my position, one must wonder why? Why do they want to foment me being only led by my false feelings? We have gone from two sides viewing each other as mistaken, to two sides viewing the other as evil. Once the other side is viewed as evil or less than human, then you can justify whatever you want. History is replete with examples of this. "We can censor their opinions because they are evil," is the grandchild of, "They're evil and not human. They're only Jews," which is the grandchild of, "They're not human, they are slaves." Please be careful when you start labeling others as evil or as not human to justify inflicting your will on others. No matter your opinions, censoring others should be the enemy. If you feel another opinion is wrong or even evil then challenge it with the truth. When someone says the sky is green, I don't force them to shut up, I open the blinds and point to the window. Shutting down opposing views makes people think your view can not stand scrutiny. If what you believe was false, wouldn't you want to know? If not, then like Dale Carnegie said, "A man convinced against his will, is of the same opinion still."Quis custodiet ipsos custodes? "Who will guard the guards themselves?""Who watches the watchers?""Who will watch the watchmen?"
