"Guided Step by Step with God's Light" "Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path." (Psalm 119:105)At a young age, many children want to be this or that when they're adults and some may make plans on the steps they'll take on how to get there. They want to know exactly where they're going in life, from start to finish, and too often, they want to see the whole shebang all at once. The most amazing thing I see about verse 105 here is that while we are told we will have light for our journey, I truly believe it will normally be only for one step at a time. When we were young kids, my older brother Tim and I enjoyed taking Dad's old lantern that hung on a big peg on the back porch and go for a late-night walk thru the woods which was close to our home. Actually, we would sneak out of the house because we were a couple of rascals at that age. Now, when we'd walk along one of the many paths in the woods with that old lantern on a pitch-dark night, we could only see one step at a time ahead of us. Once we took that step, the light from the lantern we were carrying in front of us would move forward just enough to light the next place to put our feet.We would finally reach wherever we were going safely, because we would never walk beyond the light. Therefore, in our minds, we were never in the dark. We had a lighted path for our walking even though it was only a single step at a time. We never worried or feared about the next step because we had Dad's lantern to show us the way.Well, God’s guidance is very much the same. If, by the light of God’s Word, we refuse to worry about tomorrow and trust Him for this today, then we will find both the grace and the guidance needed for every circumstance. Just like our old lantern illuminated each step my brother and I took on those dark paths back then, so the lamp of Scripture provides light on our spiritual pathway every day. We don’t need to see beyond what the Lord reveals. for He promises that there will always be enough light for each step on His pathway.Friends, why fear and fret about today or tomorrow? Just trust the light that your Lord has for you in His Word. Then as you continue to walk the path of God's will, He will provide you with the light for, not only the next step, but each step thereafter.
