"My Redeemer is my Rock." "From the end of the earth will I cry unto thee, when my heart is overwhelmed: lead me to the rock that is higher than I." (Psalm 61:2)All of us have known what it is to be overwhelmed with problems. For many folks, their first reaction when overwhelming situations arise is to give in, give up, or give out. "Why are all these things happening to me?" That's what multitudes tearfully cry.We think it strange when many things go wrong in our life when we're trying to do right for the Lord. But the Bible tell us, "Beloved, think it not strange concerning the fiery trial which is to try you, as though some strange thing happened unto you:" (I Peter 4:12)Those strange storms often come our way without any or very little warning; and if we're not Scripturally prepared, we become overwhelmed with the devastation they can inflict. They can leave us staggering downward in sorrow and stress, or they can lead us leaning on and looking upward to the Lord. Those fierce winds of woes have often taken many far away from that safe Haven of Rest, and now, now they drift aimlessly around in that sea of sadness and eventually sink to the very depths of despair as they try to steer themselves to those false shores of man-made hopes.Ah, but notice again from that little verse what David said and where he found shelter when those stormy situations bellowed away at his very being, "...when my heart is overwhelmed: lead me to the rock that is higher than I." David knew that his God was not just some ordinary rock, but "the rock that is higher than I." He is the ROCK that is exceedingly higher than any other. Those tempests which can overwhelm us, quietly roll beneath this ROCK of ours. For He and He alone is our bright and ever shining harbor for our weather-beaten souls. But hang on a second, not only is the Lord Jesus our only Rock to stand and rely on for Refuge; our Saviour is also our only Rock to receive His free Redemption. As he closed his 15-minute time slot, he said, "Folks, this may knock the socks off some of you, but I absolutely love ROCK & ROLL because beloved, my feet are on the ROCK and my name is on the ROLL." "Amen and Amen to the ROCK of my salvation."Well friends, when our hearts are overwhelmed with the storms of life, let us continue to stand on the Rock of our Salvation and sing long and loud that victorious song of praise to be joyfully heard all the way to Heaven and back, "O come, let us sing unto the LORD: let us make a joyful noise to the rock of our salvation." (Psalm 95:1)
