John 8:12 Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.Light is one of those things that are not truly appreciated until they are gone. If you don't believe it, let the power go out after dark, and you will be scurrying around to find an alternate means of lighting. Jesus said:John 9:5 As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world.Think with me today on our Savior, THE LIGHT OF THE WORLD. My friend, the light of the world is Jesus (Jn. 1:4-5) He is the SUN of God, as well as the SON of God (Mal. 4:2; Ps. 19:4-6). When Jesus left this earth, in a doctrinal sense the light went out. The sun set, and we are in a "night-time dispensation." Now the moon (the church) is shining, but even her light is the REFLECTED light of the SUN, "the light of the world."First, JESUS IS THE REAL LIGHT, called "the true light" in John 1:9. The light of lost people is FALSE (Isa. 8:20), whether it be the light of their religion, philosophy, or secular education. The light of the Lord is FIRST, in both order and brightness (Gen. 1:1-3,16; Acts 26:13). And the light of the Lord is FOREVER (Rev. 21:23). Second, JESUS IS THE REVEALING LIGHT (Eph. 5:13).Job 28:11 He bindeth the floods from overflowing; and the thing that is hid bringeth he forth to light.As the light of the world, the Lord Jesus Christ reveals our sins (Heb. 4:13; Ps. 90:8), our steps (Ex. 13:21 - our direction in life and in eternity), and our salvation (2 Cor. 4:3-4)!Third, JESUS IS THE REJECTED LIGHT (Jn. 3:19). He is rejected by the proud, by the pleasure-seekers, and by the prosperous (Lk. 16).Finally, JESUS IS THE REQUIRED LIGHT.John 11:10 But if a man walk in the night, he stumbleth, because there is no light in him.Without Jesus, you will stumble into heartache (marriage, family, finances, etc.), into heresy (Jn. 14:6), but most importantly in to HELL."Come to the Light, tis shining for thee,Sweetly the light has dawned upon me.Once I was blind, but now I can seeThe light of the world is Jesus!"
