Galatians 4:22 - For it is written, that Abraham had two sons, the one by a bondmaid, the other by a freewoman.
TWO SONS: God promised Abraham a Son through Sarah, his wife.
If you know the story in Genesis, you know Abraham and Sarah were past the age of having a child so they took matters upon themselves and Sarah gave her handmaid (Hagar) unto Abraham and that produced Ishmael who is half Jew and half Egyptian.
Genesis 16: 1 Now Sarai Abram's wife bare him no children: and she had an handmaid, an Egyptian, whose name was Hagar.
Vs 2 And Sarai said unto Abram, Behold now, the LORD hath restrained me from bearing: I pray thee, go in unto my maid; it may be that I may obtain children by her. And Abram hearkened to the voice of Sarai.
Vs 3 And Sarai Abram's wife took Hagar her maid the Egyptian, after Abram had dwelt ten years in the land of Canaan, and gave her to her husband Abram to be his wife.
Vs 4 And he went in unto Hagar, and she conceived:
Ishmael was 'not' the promised child but due to the foolishness of Abraham and Sarah they gave birth to trouble: Ishmael.
Even though Abraham and Sarah were not faithful and true to God's promise, God still gave them another child: Isaac. It is through Isaac, Jacob, the 12 sons of Israel to Christ comes all the blessings and not through Ishmael.
Galatians 3:14 - That the blessing of Abraham might come on the Gentiles THROUGH Jesus Christ; that WE might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith.
