Acts 10:14 But Peter said, Not so, Lord; for I have never eaten any thing that is common or unclean. I think this is one of the clearest revelations of the human nature of people, even saved people, that you can find in the Bible. These words, "Not so, Lord," are indicative of the rebellious nature of man to the command and revelation of God. You might remember that this happened in Peter's life another time, before the Lord was crucified (Mt. 16:21-23), and the Lord called him "Satan"! You would think that Peter would have learned his lesson. However, don't get too critical of the man, for you and I, if we're not careful, will do the same thing. Think with me, please, on the subject, DON'T ARGUE WITH JESUS!Have you ever argued with the Lord? Looking back upon my life I realize that there were times when I did argue with Him, although I would not have admitted it at the time. SOME PEOPLE ARE STUBBORN ABOUT ARGUING WITH JESUS (Mt. 26:31-33). Jonah was stubborn, and so was Paul. Jonah was stubborn about not being willing to go to Nineveh, when God told him to go. Paul was stubborn about wanting to go to Jerusalem, when God told him to NOT go. Some people are stubborn because of their comprehension, or lack thereof; because of their customs; or because of their comfort zone. They don't want to change their minds about what they are doing or about what they want to do.SOME PEOPLE ARE SUFFERING DUE TO ARGUING WITH JESUS (Prov. 13:15). Three examples of suffering because of arguing with the Lord could include experiencing a whale; entering a jail; or eternity in hell! Don't argue with Jesus about Jn. 14:6; Acts 4:12; Eph. 2:8-9! You'll suffer for all eternity! If you're saved, don't argue with Jesus about Rom. 12:1-2, or you'll suffer on earth and at the judgment seat of Christ (Rom. 14:10; 2 Cor. 5:10; 1 Cor. 3:11-15).SOME PEOPLE ARE STEALING A BLESSING FROM OTHERS BY ARGUING WITH JESUS (Acts 10:28-29,44). If you argue with the Lord, you just might miss out on the blessing of the conversion of others; of communion with God about others; or of the call of an adventure in dealing with others! But on a good note, I'm glad that it's true that SOME PEOPLE ARE SUBMISSIVE AND DON'T ARGUE WITH JESUS. A couple of examples of this are Acts 9:6 and Isa. 6:8, which see. As for you and me, let's be submissive and listen to the Lord; learn from the Lord; and launch out for the Lord!Surely you're not arguing with the Lord about anything. Or are you? Are you arguing with His word? with His Spirit? with His plan? Or are you submissive to Him? I urge you to yield to our Lord today!Don't say to Jesus, "Not so, Lord"!
