"Behold, his soul which is lifted up is not upright in him: but the just shall live by his faith." (Habakkuk 2:4)Habakkuk prophesied to Judah just before its fall to the Chaldeans. His short book records his complaint to the Lord and the Lord's answer. At first, he complained about the corruption of his own people. The Lord's answer was that judgment was on its way by the hand of the Chaldeans. Then he complained about the Chaldeans. They seemed to be brutally swallowing up all the nations and robbing them of their goods. Those whom God used for judgment were not used because they were more righteous than the nations they conquered. The LORD will predict the future demise of the Chaldeans. They were nothing but prideful, and worshipers of idols. They were a people of twisted souls. The Chaldeans were not a righteous nation at all and had no faith in the God of Heaven. The Lord declared in the above verse I posted that the righteous shall live by faith. This verse was quoted three times in the New Testament (Romans 1:17; Galatians 3:11; Hebrews 10:38). Now, you and I can complain till the cows come home about the world around us and the wicked nations of the Earth. But folks, that is the way fallen people behave. Why should we expect those who know not God behave in a righteous manner in what they do or say?The righteous, on the other hand shall live by faith. We are to live consistent lives according to the Scriptures God has given us. It is by faith that we have a life that is different. Living by faith is the best way to affect those around us. Sitting in a corner twiddling our thumbs and complaining day in and day out about injustice and evil doesn't help change anything and it doesn't help those who know not the Lord Jesus Christ. On the other hand, living by faith will speak to others which results in bringing forth fruit for the Glory of God.The next time we are tempted to join in with others in a complaining session, remember that we will be more helpful by commenting about living by faith in our Lord and all that He has accomplished in our Earthly life and all that He has promised concerning Eternal life. Friends, what a precious promise it is that by faith, God keeps us from the very moment we were saved till the very moment we arrive in Heaven.
