In the election of 1860, Lincoln was the nominee of the newly formed Republican Party. The Republican Party was largely seen as a Northern party and did not have much support in the Southern states. As a result, Lincoln’s name was not on the ballot in several Southern states, including South Carolina, Mississippi, Florida, Alabama, Georgia, Louisiana, and Texas. These states would later secede from the Union and form the Confederate States of America, which did not recognize Lincoln’s presidency.https://twitter.com/docMJP/status/1697251855427109244?
