SOUND WORDS OF SALVATION FALLING TO THE GROUND
One would think that with all the salvation words and phrases in the Bible, no one would find it necessary to INVENT words and phrases. Nevertheless, people are laying aside God’s vocabulary and inventing their own.
One of the best examples of this is the expression “let Christ come into your life” or “when Christ came into my life.” The Bible speaks of a sinner being converted to Christ as a new birth, a washing, redemption, being saved, receiving Christ, becoming a child of God, and numerous other terms, but never is salvation spoken of as “letting Christ come into” one’s life. The expression is just too weak to define or describe personal salvation.
The DEVIL is in the Christian’s life, but that doesn’t mean he belongs to the devil. Satan is merely present as the tempter and deceiver. So, having Christ in one’s life doesn’t imply a new birth, only an active presence. Christ was in my life before I was saved. He protected and preserved me so that one day I could see Him as my only hope and receive Him. He was in my life through the power of the Holy Spirit, convicting me of sin and the eternal consequences of sin. Jesus Christ was very much a part of my life as a young teenager, but I wasn’t saved until I RECEIVED Him as my Saviour and was BORN AGAIN. Christ is even in the devil's life, but the devil certainly isn't saved.
So “letting Christ come into" one’s life doesn’t amount to much. I realize that most use the expression out of habit and don't mean any harm by it, but there's no good reason to use it at all. God has provided us with plenty of fitting words to describe and define salvation, so let's be careful to "hold fast the form of sound words" and not let any of them "fall to the ground" (II Tim. 1:13, I Sam. 3:19), especially when it comes to the eternal salvation of the souls of men.
