"Then he answered and spake unto me, saying, This is the word of the LORD unto Zerubbabel, saying, Not by might, nor by power, but by my spirit, saith the LORD of hosts.
Who art thou, O great mountain? before Zerubbabel thou shalt become a plain: and he shall bring forth the headstone thereof with shoutings, crying, Grace, grace unto it." (Zechariah 4:6-7)
Zerubbabel was concerned that he would not be able to finish the work of rebuilding the temple that the Lord had called him to do. The obstacles before him seemed like a mountain that had to be moved. There were political enemies, threats of physical violence, and the people who were doing the work had concerns for their safety and the safety of their families.
Then the angel of the LORD spoke a message from the LORD to Zerubbabel saying, "Not by might, nor by power, but by my spirit, saith the LORD of hosts." That's exactly how things get done. For God is the doer of all good things.
What a comfort it must have been for Zerubbabel to hear those words. The message went on to say that the mountain of obstacles would become a plain or level ground. Then the headstone would be brought forth and the people would cry out, "Grace, grace unto it."
You know folks, many who are reading this post will look at their own life and see a mountain that must be moved before they can be the kind of vessel that God wants them to be. How can we be that person who believes the Word of God with conviction and behaves it without compromise? Well, the same answer back then is the same answer for us today, "Not by might, nor by power, but by my spirit, saith the LORD of hosts." When we allow God to work in our life, that's when that headstone is brought out and we shout, "Grace, grace unto it."
Yes, we can shout today, "Grace, grace unto it." And do you know why? Because God said, "...My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me." (2 Corinthians 12:9)
Friends, today, and at every turn, we see political unrest and threats of violence. The safety of our families is a major concern, and many well-meaning would rather cut and run and go AWOL than to stay in the battle. But remember, we are indeed warriors and more than conquerors on the winning side. Therefore, may the Grace of God be our sufficiency and may the Power of Christ rest upon each of us as we continue to labor more abundantly for the Lord.
