WHY DO PEOPLE SEEK SIGNS? "And he sighed deeply in his spirit, and saith, Why doth this generation seek after a sign? verily I say unto you, There shall no sign be given unto this generation." (Mark 8:12) There are at least three reasons for people seeking signs: 1) THEY HAVE NO FAITH. Rather than believing what they CANNOT see (Heb. 11:1), they must see something in order to feel any real confirmation and satisfaction. 2) THE ENTERTAINMENT. Signs can be fun and exciting, something to talk about, much like a breaking news story or a spectacular event. 3) FOOD FOR SELF-PRIDE. If someone believes that God sent a sign, then that can easily become "God sent ME, or US, a sign" and thus puff-up the spirit, whereas simple faith in the word (Rom. 10:17) would have promoted humility and grace. It is God's will for us to simply believe His words by faith. Having to SEE something diminishes faith and is not pleasing to God (Heb. 11:1, 6).
