Examine yourselves, whether ye be in the faith; prove your own selves. Know ye not your own selves, how that Jesus Christ is in you, except ye be reprobates (worthless)? - 2 Corinthians 13:5Paul is writing to a church of Christian believers urging them to test themselves -- to do some personal examination -- to see if they are truly in the faith. Are you in the faith? Do you believe the gospel message of salvation through faith, and faith alone, in Jesus Christ? Do you believe Christ died for your sins and rose again from the dead? What evidence is there in your life -- your relationships, attitudes, actions, speech, use of money, attention given to God's word and prayer, etc -- that would indicate you're a new creature in Christ? What sins have you forsaken to follow Christ? Dear reader, I'm confident you will pass the test, but I do think it worth your while to take it now, just in case you don't pass, so there's still time to do something about it.
