Judgment is Coming for Everyone: Which One Do You Want?
For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ; that everyone may receive the things done in his body, according to that he hath done, whether it be good or bad.
--- 2 Corinthians 5:10
Lost people's greatest mistake is to think they can live their lives without God free from any accountability to Him in this life and when we die. But if you believe the Bible just the opposite is taught. Heb. 9:27 says, "It is appointed to man once to die and after that the judgment." There is a coming day of all days when everyone will be judged according to our position in Christ or out of Him in this life. This appearance is why we refer to people as "lost or saved." What a terrible surprise it will be for people to stand before the Lord and be condemned for all eternity because they did not trust Christ as Saviour. No one should ever be in that position. You need Jesus and what He has done for you on the cross to be saved. Trust Him and let Him live His life through you.
Yet, the Christian is not exempt from judgment. Their judgment is mentioned by Paul in the two letters to the Corinthians. In I Cor. 3:13 it says our judgment will be "according to our works," as fire would test a material to see how it shines or is destroyed. This judgment is not on our soul if we are in Christ; rather it is on our service for Him.
In this verse again it is reiterated that what we have while on earth will be tested and tried according to what we have done in our bodies. We can do good or bad things in our bodies. Paul said it is "the temple of God" in I Cor. 3:16. No wonder, he also says in Rom. 12:1 to "present our bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God." I don't know the intricacies of this judgment, but I know it will happen because of our accountability to the Lord and how we have lived the Christian life. We should be looking forward to it instead of dreading it. We should come rejoicing bringing in the sheaves.
So you are not going to get off 'Scott free" if you are a believer. There is a greater obligation to live the Christian life, get in a New Testament church, serve God with gladness, and thank Him you will not appear in judgment for your sin but in a revealing for your witness and testimony, you had on earth. Believe me, you want to be in that judgment instead.
