"Those Who Labor Unseen""Salute Tryphena and Tryphosa, who labour in the Lord. Salute the beloved Persis, which laboured much in the Lord."--Rom 16:12 “it takes an army of volunteers to run a church.” We tend to forget that. Most of the attention goes to the pastors but in reality, without the greeters and ushers and sound guys and nursery workers and children’s church people and secretaries and teachers and coffee servers and janitors…the pastors would be helpless. Think of football where the spotlight is constantly on the quarterback. Let the quarterback step on the field by himself and see how well the game goes. Same with church. Now think of Jesus roaming the land by himself, or Paul going alone on a missionary journey, or David without his mighty men of valor. In truth, a leader is only as good as the people who are supporting him and working with him. We must never forget that. I also suspect that when the crowns are handed out in heaven, some of the heaviest will be going to the “unsung” workers—the ones no one notices or thanks, who minister simply for the joy of serving, without complaining, year after year after year.Nevertheless, a sincere word of thanks does wonders for one’s soul, and if the Spirit puts it in your mind, perhaps you could give a warm thank-you to the nursery lady who hands your child back after the service next Sunday.
