He makes me lie down in green pastures.
He leads me beside still waters.
He restores my soul.
He leads me in paths of righteousness
for his name's sake.
--- Psalm 23:2-3
When we allow God, our shepherd, to guide us, we have contentment. When we choose to sin and go our own way, however, we cannot blame God for the environment we create for ourselves. Our shepherd knows the “green pastures” and” still streams” that will restore us. We will reach these places only by following him obediently. Rebelling against the shepherd’s leading is actually rebelling against our own best interests. We must remember this the next time we are tempted to go our own way rather than the shepherd’s way.

Thoughts on Today's Verse...
When we are exhausted, depleted, and on the edge of burnout, we need to have our souls restored! But who can restore our souls? The only one who can truly lead us beside quiet waters: the Lord, who is our Shepherd. He alone can fully bring the nourishment, replenishment, rest, and renewal that our weary souls need. Yet why do we sometimes find it so hard to set aside time to be quiet with him? Could it be that we keep our lives so busy and noisy that we miss out on the one who matters most? Time with our Shepherd is necessary to sustain a life of purpose, satisfaction, and meaning.
