Do we talk about God and the things of God? Or are we, for all practical purposes: atheists when it comes to letting God’s Word rule our lives, having a conscious awareness of His presence, and trusting in Him to direct every curve, corner, and part of our life?
Part of the problem is we are performance-oriented in the church. You don’t have to be in a liturgical church to go through a worship routine; don’t let it affect you or think about it the rest of the week. We secede the everyday living part to the rat race that does not acknowledge God or seek His leadership.
I’m sure it is strange to God: That his creatures who will spend eternity beyond this world give so little time to thinking about Him and heaven when we all have an appointment straight ahead with Him. God would be in our conversations, His word on our lips, and His leadership be sought in everything we do.
Ultimately, we get what being carnally or worldly-minded will give: Only death and destruction. It won’t matter 100 years from now what your job was, what car you had, or how much money you accumulated. It all vanishes when this world is over. But for the spirit-filled believer liberated from this world’s bondage, we will get all of who God is and all He has in store for those who love Him. Plus, there is victorious living because the giver of all life is at the forefront of all we do. There is a peace that I am going to an eternal home far better than this sin-filled one. There is peace to pass understanding and anything we worry about in this life.
Show me what you talk about, think about, and live for, and I’ll show you what camp you are in. It’s never too late to switch camps, however. God will welcome you to rise above the cares of this world.
