"Great Relief"
Someone once asked the question—"What is your favorite feeling?" No guy would ever ask a question like that, but we were expected to answer so one guy said "a sense of accomplishment," which I agreed with. It's good feeling to have a task successfully completed. Another said "I like the flush of victory." He was one of those competitive types. The one that rocked me on my heels was—"the feeling of relief," as when the cop gives you a warning instead of a ticket.
That's how I feel when I worship. Profound relief. I am a law-breaker—but instead of throwing the book at me, the judge commutes my sentence. I am a debtor whose obligation is staggering, but instead of bankruptcy the judge writes off my debt. I am servant who has incurred the wrath of my master, but instead of a beating he invites me to join him at his table. I am a patient who has days to live, but the doctor donates his own organs to save my life.
Relief…mingled with gratitude. There is no more satisfying feeling than that, and it's only felt by true believers.
May it wash over you like a tidal wave in church on Sunday as you worship the Almighty in the splendor of his holiness.
