"Hold thou me up, and I shall be safe: and I will have respect unto thy statutes continually." (Psalm 119::17)
"Hold thou me up." That should be every Christian’s daily prayer. For our way is often rough, and the dangers are many. Our foes are plenty and powerful, and many are liable to fall.
If we from the heart pray this prayer, it proves that we have a sense of our own weakness, a knowledge of the Lord as our strength, genuine humility working within, and a desire to honor God ruling in our life.
We are in the world, and unless the Lord holds us up, we shall bring guilt on our conscience, disgrace to the gospel, and dishonor to God. We are members of the body of Christ, and unless the Lord holds us up, we shall harbor the roots of bitterness, become stumbling blocks, and grieve the Holy Spirit.
We shall be, if we are not already, in affliction, and unless the Lord hold us up, we shall faint, become angry with God, as was Jonah, or be hardened through the deceitfulness of sin.
Therefore, lean not on the things of Earth, trust not in a half-hearted friend, and place no dependance in your gifts and talents, but let your daily prayer be: "Hold Thou me up, and I shall be safe."
Friends, the ear of thy God ii listening, the heart of thy God is compassionate, and the arm of thy God is strong!
