"Until the day break, and the shadows flee away, I will get me to the mountain of myrrh, and to the hill of frankincense." (Song of Solomon 4:6)Down thru the years, I've always enjoyed searching thru God's Old Testament photo album and seeing New Testament pictures He took long before they occurred. I find it exciting and very rewarding as I leaf through God's album and see the Lord Jesus in type.Well, what we have here in these verses is a beautiful snapshot of Christ. In this single little verse, I see the Place of Redemption, "the mountain of myrrh" and the Power of the Resurrection, "the hill of frankincense.""The mountain of myrrh" I believe speaks of Calvary. Consider those opening words, "Until the day break, and the shadows flee away, I will get me to the mountain of myrrh" Don't you just love those words, "I will get me to the mountain of myrrh." Have you been there? Calvary is that Mountain of Myrrh where the message of the Cross for mankind is proclaimed and where we can take all our sin and know His salvation.I love that little hymn that trumpets that burden bearing banner of our Beloved One:♫ Days are filled with sorrow and care,Hearts are lonely and drear.Burdens are lifted at Calvary,Jesus is very near.Burdens are lifted at Calvary,Calvary! Calvary!Burdens are lifted at Calvary,Jesus is very near. ♫It's at Calvary where all can lay their hopes and hurts upon His heart. That Mountain of Myrrh, where redemption was wrought, is where every whosoever will can find safety and salvation, help and healing, care and cure; not only for earthly joy, but eternal joy as well."The hill of frankincense" I believe refers to His life. Not only His perfect and righteous earthly life which all of us have examined in the Scriptures, but His resurrected glorified life we have experienced in our souls. Paul reminds us, "Wherefore henceforth know we no man after the flesh: yea, though we have known Christ after the flesh, yet now henceforth know we him no more. Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new." (II Corinthians 5:16-17) Now we know Him as the Glorified One.Friends, "Until the day break, and the shadows flee away", I pray that each of you have come"...to the mountain of myrrh" and left your burdens there once and for all at that Cross of His Redemption. Then from there, may you ever continue to move onward and upward and climb that "hill of frankincense" and behold the beauty and fragrance of your Resurrected Saviour.
