"WHO TOUCHED ME?" "And Jesus said, Who touched me? When all denied, Peter and they that were with him said, Master, the multitude throng thee and press thee, and sayest thou, Who touched me? And Jesus said, Somebody hath touched me: for I perceive that virtue is gone out of me." (Luke 8:45-46) Here we have the story of the lady who had faith to believe that Jesus could heal her issue of blood, and that's just what He did. But notice the peculiar wording that is used to highlight her faith. Jesus is moving through a crowd of people, no doubt brushing shoulders with many of them, yet one woman stands out among all the rest. That is, Jesus took note of the one who touched Him ON PURPOSE. But not without calling her out. Jesus knew very well who had touched Him, but he wanted the woman to step out and not be ashamed or afraid. So His words drew her from the crowd and positioned her for the reward of faith that she was to receive. Everyone else sort of faded into the background as this one lady stepped forward and became highlighted front and center. Then we are told in verse forty-eight, "thy faith hath made thee whole; go in peace." It was the lady's FAITH that made all the difference. Just as she had felt an immediate healing ENTER her body, Jesus felt virtue immediately LEAVE His body, and it was all due to her faith. So, what really touched him was her faith. The question "Who touched me?" actually means "Who reached out in faith and put their hand on me seeking help?" Many had likely touched Him, but only one had done so with real faith. Hebrews chapter four gives a good cross reference on this. Before telling us that we may "come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need", (4:16) verse fifteen says, "For we have not an high priest which cannot be TOUCHED with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin." So how do we touch Jesus with the feeling of our infirmities? The same way the lady did: through faith. Hebrews 11:6 even says that it's impossible to please Him without it. Through the years, I've heard many saints sing the words "He touched me," but when is the last time that YOU touched HIM? When is the last time you reached out beyond the crowd and touched Him differently than everyone else? When is the last time that your faith captured the attention of the Lord Jesus Christ and moved Him on your behalf?
