"The LORD looseth the prisoners:" (Psalm 146:7c) "The only way I have of knowing what God can do in the future is by observing what He's done in the past."If you'll examine the Scriptures, your heart will beat with the joy of the Lord while reading the testimonies of those whose faith in God wrought freedom from the devil's dungeon.See Joseph being set free from Pharaoh's prison by the mighty Hand of God. Consider the nation of Israel being redeemed after centuries of bondage in Egypt. Take a long hard look at David, who confessed his sin and experienced, not only forgiveness, but knew once again the fulness of joy and pleasures for evermore.Leafing through the pages of the New Testament, all of a sudden, we happen upon a prayer meeting being held for Peter's release and, OH MY, what a day of deliverance that was! Yes, our Great Deliverer has done it before, and He can do it again! Time and time again, the Lord has broken the bars of brass with a look and snapped the fetters of iron with a Word. What a blessing it has been for me to preach in jails and prisons over the past years. What a captive audience to say the least. What a joy it has been to watch inmates trust Christ as Saviour and see them on return visits now walking in newness of life. A life that went from the chains of captivity by the change of conviction and conversion! This very hour, America is being held captive. Many Heaven-less folks are living in a gutter of garbage that has been flowing and flourishing throughout our cities for years on end. Day after day, millions I dare say continue to wander in their own wilderness of wickedness. They repeat the same old sins of the past and have even come up with some new ones to satisfy that longing for lewdness. Oh, how they stand in need deliverance! Even as the curtain of time is drawing to a close, Jesus Christ still longs to deliver countless prisoners bound today by habits, hopelessness, and in Hell's grip.No one, in and of themselves, has the strength to open that iron fist of Satan. Only the Almighty Power of God can liberate any and all who are trapped in Satan's sinful snares. Yes, the Lord Jesus is the Beloved Emancipator of the oppressed.Friends, what a marvelous Message you and I have today to proclaim to an innumerable company of eternal souls whose hurting hearts can truly beat anew after receiving that Good News of Pardon which we ourselves have experienced: "The Lord looseth the prisoners."
