"And when they shall say unto you, Seek unto them that have familiar spirits, and unto wizards that peep, and that mutter: should not a people seek unto their God? for the living to the dead?
To the law and to the testimony: if they speak not according to this word, it is because there is no light in them." (Isaiah 8:19-20)
One of God's complaints against His people was their willingness to seek direction from familiar spirits and wizards. When people turn their heart away from God, they will want to know what the future holds so that they can prepare for it. They chuckle at sin and their fear is not their impending judgment which they try to alter, but circumstances they hope to avoid which they think will allow them to have a happy day. They will not inquire of God because God would tell them to repent.
This fascination with knowing the future by consulting these familiar spirits and wizards stems from a lack of faith and trust in God. If a person is walking in the Spirit, they trust God each day. If there is a need to inquire about direction in life, they look to the Lord Who promises in His Word; not that gang of familiar spirits and wizards who like to predict from a crystal ball.
Our Great Shepherd cares deeply for His sheep today, tomorrow, and beyond. Only those who are wandering from the sheepfold will be desperate to know what the future will bring. King Saul was such a person. He dared not inquire of God for he would not repent. So what did he end up doing? He sought out a witch to act as a medium (1 Samuel 28: 6-19).
Mark it down in big letters folks, evil sources of information will contradict what the Scriptures teach. That's because, as God said in Isaiah 8:20: "To the law and to the testimony: if they speak not according to this word, it is because there is no light in them."
The dead have finished their time in this life. How can they help others sitting around a table holding hands in some sort of silly satanic seance? Jesus is the only One Who was victorious, not only in life, but over death as well. Let us therefore consult Him Who knows all things.
Friends, here's what you and I are to seek. We are to WAIT upon the Lord, let His WORD be the WILL for our life, WITNESS to the lost, and WATCH for His return. For He alone will be our guide in all things.
