"The LORD also will be a refuge for the oppressed, a refuge in times of trouble.
And they that know thy name will put their trust in thee: for thou, LORD, hast not forsaken them that seek thee." (Psalm 9:9-10)
What a wonderful promise! The LORD is our refuge, our shelter, our safe place in times of trouble.
Trouble is a part of life. We live in a fallen world and are part of the fallen race. It is impossible to fathom the magnitude of the troubles in this world. Many live in constant fear over what might happen next. Even those who have placed their trust in God sometimes forget that He is their source of help in these days of trouble.
When struggling with trials, sickness, and losses, we need to remember that God is over all and that He is working from beginning to end in our life even when we cannot understand the various situations that come our way.
When the Doctor's report is a bleak one, or trouble comes to a marriage, or parents are struggling with a rebellious child, we are assured from the Scriptures that God alone is our source of comfort, and that He does not forsake those that seek Him.
Now Satan loves to show up on our doorstep like the neighbor's hungry pet cat and suggest our troubles are too great and that there is no hope. But our God is the God of hope! Therefore, it is to Him that we must turn to and trust in. The Psalmist says, “And they that know thy name will put their trust in thee.” True knowledge of God's promises brings trust.
Friends, God is All Powerful and nothing is too hard for Him. Seek Him today all ye that are oppressed; for He will not forsake you, neither will He forget you. He will not leave His children dangling in doubt and despair, for He remembers well what He has promised. Yes, He is our refuge in times of trouble!
