"A merry heart maketh a cheerful countenance: but by sorrow of the heart the spirit is broken." (Proverbs 15:13)Did you ever think you're the only one on the planet that's had some tough times in the past when things didn't go your way or when people made fun of or ridiculed you? We've all experienced those type of days, haven't we? It's times like that when it's a hard job to smile even if you're being paid to do it.I remember such an incident in my own life many years ago. I was just eight years old and in the third grade when I thought about looking one afternoon when I got home from school for that kite that little red-headed girl told me to GO and FLY after I asked her to dance during a sock-hop at our elementary school. When I got home, my brother, told me what she meant. At first, I was hurt and then madder than a cat that had its tail stepped on, but he put his arm around me, and we laughed and laughed and I felt better. That may seem like small potatoes to some folks, but the merry heart I felt that day gave me a cheerful countenance and went a long way in helping me for the days that were waiting down the road.Do you know someone today who's feeling lower than an old rusty muffler dragging on the ground without even a piece of wire to hold it up? Perhaps you could put your arm around their shoulder and hold them up and help to bring some cheer for their tomorrows.Friends, even the sun seems to always shine brighter when you have a merry heart. If you can find some humor during these difficult times all of us are going thru, and have someone to share it with, before long, both of you will learn how to laugh and be able to wear a cheerful countenance once again.
