Russia (Soviets) came to the rescue. They heard what was happening and warned The U.S. that if it didn't stop they would level Israel into a parking lot. The Israelis heard this transmission and called off the helicopters that were sent in to finish off the rest of the surviving by dropping off ground troops on deck. The Russian ship stood by for 18 hours until the U.S. Ships arrived.
