God's Glory in Christ
John 17:5 "And now, O Father, glorify Me together with Yourself with the glory I had with You before the world was.
The true Lord's prayer features this interesting verse which proves Jesus' self-understanding of who He was, where He had come from and where He was going back. It illustrates how Jesus had given up the Glory He had through all eternity with the Father.
Jesus is the eternal God who has existed with the Father through all eternity. Jesus gave up this glory to come to earth as a servant and be our Saviour by going to the cross. This glory was restored to Him after His resurrection. He asked the Father to glorify Him with the glory He had with the Father. We would not be able to stand in His presence if Jesus had not come in this way.
We need to have the same type of servanthood Christ had when He came to earth. To glorify the Lord so that even in simple things, people will see the presence of Christ. Jesus will come back in great glory so we can share in it. God wants to give us His glory as we minister as did Christ. That is the purpose of the Incarnation and the joy of what we all can attain through Christ.
