Do you charge your mobile phones using public USB charging stations in airports, shopping centers or hotels?
The FBI has issued an advisory warning to not use public USB charging ports as cybercriminals are using them to introduce malicious software (malware) onto mobile phones. This cyber-theft tactic is known as “juice jacking”.
Hackers have figured out ways to use public USB ports to introduce malware and monitoring software onto devices connected to these ‘dirty’ USB ports. The downloaded malware is used to export personal data and passwords directly to the cybercriminals or lock a device for ransomware demands.
Important!
Please carry your own charger with a USB cable and use an electrical power outlet for your device charging.
