THE STRENGTH OF TYPOLOGY "And did all drink the same spiritual drink: for they drank of that spiritual Rock that followed them: and that Rock was Christ." ( I Cor. 10:4) I've always had a special appreciation for that verse. Not only because it sheds light on one of God's many types from the Old Testament, but because its wording calls us to a higher mindset when approaching God's word. The verse doesn't say, "That Rock was a TYPE or a PICTURE of Christ." It simply states that the Rock WAS Christ. The Rock was obviously not Christ literally, so Paul is speaking typically, but the type is so strong that he doesn't bother calling it a type. It is assumed that the reader will be plugged-in spiritually and will understand the statement, sort of an insider comment that carnal minds would miss. So the Lord is telling us in the verse that you SHOULD think spiritually, you CAN think spiritually, and you WILL think spiritually, if you are to comprehend the Book.
