"My son, if sinners entice thee, consent thou not." (Proverbs 1:10)
There are different ways by which a person may be enticed to sin. They may want to fit in or belong. They may be intimidated by a stronger personality. They may even see some promise of personal advancement. Enticement can even come from a well-meaning, but foolish, so-called friend who offers advice that is contrary to the Word of God.
Note those words, "‘If sinners entice thee." First of all, when we see the word "Thee" in this verse, we ought to sit up and pay attention because that "Thee" means you and me. In the second place, what entices someone else to sin may not even be a temptation to others.
But here is a vital principle: whatever sins do entice us; we are not consent to them. And here's something else to consider and it comes free of charge; God help us to never console ourselves with this foolish idea, which oozes with pride, that we have not committed the same sin to which someone else has fallen prey to.
Regardless of the many enticements to sin which we may encounter, here is the simple, straight-forward admonition from God's Word, "Consent thou not." When we consent to temptation, we allow that enticement to become an entrapment. Remember, even though Satan or someone else may entice us to sin, they cannot force us to sin.
The many temptations that Christians FIGHT against, can be conquered by their FLIGHT from them, and by God’s Grace and Power, we can resist and flee from every one of Satan’s wicked enticements which are designed to entangle us.
Friends, as we daily war against the flesh, let's remain strong and steadfast knowing that our Lord has been faithfully working the good things of God in our Christian walk right from the very start of it and that He will continue to work till the end of our days on Earth, or until He comes for us. Now, that ought to give us the confidence we need when temptation comes calling.
