God's Judgment is Swift and Sudden
Deuteronomy 9:3 Understand therefore this day, that the Lord thy God is he which goeth over before thee; as a consuming fire he shall destroy them, and he shall bring them down before thy face: so shalt thou drive them out and destroy them quickly, as the Lord hath said unto thee.
Moses reminded the Israelites of God's Judgement. It could happen quickly, as with the Golden Calf and Sodom, or it may be gradual, like the plagues in Egypt, and suddenly with the plague of the death angel. At any rate, Moses reminded them of His consuming fire of judgment. He wanted them to know they could not escape sin and disobedience to His Commandments.
The sudden shock of a catastrophe bringing everything to a halt has been seen in how the coronavirus scare has altered our way of life. Many have asked if this is the judgment of God. I do know this. God is trying to get our attention through this crisis. We expect we can go on like everything is fine, and then everything can be thrown into disarray.
I know that God will not overlook sin. Jesus warned of judgment coming as in the Days of Noah. Everything seemed to be normal till judgment came. Paul said, "When they shall say, Peace and safety; then sudden destruction cometh upon them, as travail upon a woman with child; and they shall not escape." I Thess. 5: 3.
Should we be scared of God? Let's respect and worship Him. If we think church, the Bible, salvation, and judgment is something we opt out of, look around us. It can all change suddenly. You must give your life to God by accepting His son Jesus as Saviour. We do not control our lives, but God controls eternity and everything. If you trust Him, you will escape His inevitable judgment against sin.
