LETTING CHRIST "INTO YOUR LIFE"
Someone once said that people wouldn't believe in God at all, if they weren't allowed to believe in Him wrongly. Take the expression, "Let Christ come into your life," for instance. God's word says a great deal about Jesus Christ, with the word "Christ" showing up over 500 times and the word "Jesus" making over 900 appearances, but never does God's word say anything about letting Christ come into your life. This Laodicean adage carries with it the notion that Jesus is nothing more than a little seasoning that can add a bit of flavor and improvement to your life or maybe a bit of spiritual octane or caffeine that could give you an extra boost. This thinking is on par with the "God is my co-pilot" mindset, where the sinner's personal will remains the focal point of his life, but God is invited along for the ride so long as He doesn't try to grab the wheel and run things. It's a very convenient philosophy where you have no cross to bear, yet having God as your "co-pilot" or "Christ in your life" can add a touch of respectability to your identity while also applying a convenient salve to your conscience. Unfortunately, it will also send you straight to hell.
Your were told to be BORN AGAIN by none other than Jesus Christ Himself (John 3:1-8), and this happens as a result of RECEIVING Christ (John 1:12) and being made a NEW CREATURE in Christ (II Cor. 5:17), not by merely letting Him ride along like a hitchhiker. As a sinner, your righteousnesses are as FILTHY RAGS (Isa. 64:6), and only the IMPUTED RIGHTEOUSNESS of Jesus Christ can make you new and keep you out of hell (Rom. 4:5-8). That's not a matter of "letting Christ come into" YOUR life; that's a matter of finding a NEW LIFE as a NEW-BORN BELIEVER. Big difference.
