"Who shall change our vile body, that it may be fashioned like unto his glorious body, according to the working whereby he is able even to subdue all things unto himself." (Philippians 3:21)Many years ago, I was reading a story about a young 7 year old handicapped boy named Tommy. Tommy loved Baseball and would sit for hours watching games on T.V. Tommy's older brother was on the local little league team and Tommy, along with his parents, would be found sitting in the bleachers during every game rooting for their team. Tommy's dream was to one day be like his big brother and wear the uniform of a baseball player. The manager of the little league team was a fine Christian man and was aware of Tommy's dreams and disability and knew that Tommy would never be able to play in a game like the other boys. He contacted the company that had supplied the uniforms for the team and at his own expense, had a special uniform made with Tommy's name on the back of the jersey along with the number 1 printed on both sides. Before the start of the final game of the season, the manager announced to the crowd in attendance that he had a special presentation to make. He asked Tommy's parents if they would bring their son on to the playing field. A few moments later, both parents were standing at home plate with little Tommy cradled in his father's arms. The manger, with a microphone in hand, began by announcing to the crowd in attendance, "Ladies and gentlemen, Tommy has been our team's most faithful follower. He has attended every game and with great enthusiasm cheered our boys on to an undefeated season. His dream is to one day be a ballplayer himself and to wear the uniform like his older brother and these other boys. Today we honor Tommy and his dream by giving him this special uniform and from this day forward we gladly declare that he will forever be a member of our team."As the manager placed the special little jersey around Tommy's shoulders, Tommy turned to his father and said, "Daddy, I'm just like the other boys on the team now. I'm all suited up and ready to play."As I read that story, I couldn't help but think about the many people on the Lord's Team just like Tommy. They may have a certain handicap which in some ways prevents them from physically doing what others are able to do for the Lord. Yet, as Tommy did, they cheer on their brothers and sisters in Christ by giving their faithful attendance in prayer and encouragement. For those dear folks, there is indeed coming a day when they will receive a new body which was promised and purchased one day by the Captain of our Salvation. For they have been faithful followers of their Lord and Saviour.Friends, if you have been a forgiven and faithful follower of Jesus Christ, then Praise God for a new uniform (that new body to be sure) which you will receive and REJOICE, because your names are written in Heaven.
