"Ask ye of the LORD rain in the time of the latter rain; so the LORD shall make bright clouds, and give them showers of rain, to every one grass in the field.
For the idols have spoken vanity, and the diviners have seen a lie, and have told false dreams; THEY COMFORT IN VAIN: therefore they went their way as a flock, they were troubled, because there was no shepherd." (Zechariah 10:1-2) (caps mine)
There are thousands of different places, people, and pleasures that promise comfort and satisfaction. Those cosmetics and creams are not the fountain of youth they claim to be on those T.V. commercials. Material things do not satisfy the need for pleasure that people crave. A College education will not fill the need for wisdom. As verse 2 here says, "They comfort in vain."
False prophets, philosophical gurus, and political phonies pretend to understand the needs of mankind and claim to have found the answers to life’s big questions. Yet, they are just as blind in their own musings and speculations as those who wind up believing and following them. "They comfort in vain."
The only true promise and the only satisfying comfort that is to be found in all the universe is found in that Person named Jesus Christ. He is the Way for those who are looking, He is the Truth for those who are learning, and He is the Life for those who are living.
Everyone or anything else that substitutes the Truth found in God's Word with their own theories is telling you a lie and is offering empty promises, false hopes, and a vain comfort.
Friends, are you looking today for that joy-filling, need-meeting, soul-supplying comfort? The greatest pleasure you and I will ever know is the satisfaction of turning to God, confessing our sins, and then being filled with His forgiveness. You will find that His comfort is NOT in vain!
