Question….Why didn’t Moses tell the people Pharoah and company were coming?Moses knew Pharaoh was coming ahead of time (because God spoke to Moses about it) Pharoah will say, Pharoah shall follow ...Exodus 14:1-4Answer…To spur the people to depend on God…The children of Israel cried out unto the LORD….Exodus 14:10To show God has complete control over the situation.Fear ye not, stand still, and see the salvation of the LORD, which he will shew to you to day…Exodus 14:13Moses told the people of Israel to stop ( stand still) Stopping…. is the LORD’s direction to the Jews in this crisis. Despair….. will cast you down, keeping you from standing. Fear …..will tell you to retreat. Impatience ….will tell you to do something now. Presumption ….will tell you to jump into the Red Sea before it is parted. Just stand still and watch as God reveals His plan.Moses had to show confidence/ faith before the nation to encourage their faith, this may not have happenned if Moses was not told about Pharoah,s coming. No doubt if Moses had told the people there would be a great panic and people would have scattered. The people were surprised at the arrival of Pharaoh ( Exodus 14:10-12) but Moses was ready and spiritually prepared although it seems Moses did not know Gods plan and only got final instructions at the actual arrival of Pharaoh … Lift thou up thy rod, and stretch out thine hand over the sea, and divide it: and the children of Israel shall go on dry ground through the midst of the sea….Exodus 14:16The miracle was all night, not instantaneous…Moses stretched out his hand over the sea; and the LORD caused the sea to go back by a strong east wind all that night, and made the sea dry land…Exodus 14:21
