Jesus stood still...That exact phrase is used only 2 times in the Kjv and both of them in the same event .Matthew 20:32/Mark 10:49Faith off the scale...Bartimaeus, the son of Timaeus, was one of 2 blind beggar,s who was healed by Jesus Christ that day. They were sitting on the side of a road when Jesus was walking through Jericho. When they heard that Jesus was near, they shouted "Jesus thou son of David, ( indicating a believer) have mercy on me” When Jesus heard him he stood still right there in the middle of the road. Both blind men were called to come to Jesus...But only blind Bartimaeus yanked off his old coat and flung it aside, ( knowing he could never find it again) jumped up and found his way to Jesus.( Mark 10:50) Jesus then healed Bartimaeus and his blind friend by touching their eyes and then both blind men could see. The fact that only Bartimaeus threw off his coat ( garment) is very significant. Then Jesus asked him what do you want...Jesus asked this question with full knowledge that he was blind. He knew what he needed and what he wanted, but God still wants us to tell Him our needs as a constant expression of our trust and reliance on Him furthering our spiritual growth. As a matter of Jewish custom, blind men and beggars in that day wore certain coats to identify them, so that people could recognize their needs. Bartimaeus had so much faith that he would be healed by Jesus that he threw off his coat in total faith knowing that he no longer would need the coat that identified him as a blind beggar, even before he was healed 2 verses later. Its not recorded the other blind man also threw his coat away meaning he might need to keep his identity as a blind man if Jesus failed.Blind Bartimaeus,s faith using Jesus,s power as a trigger had made him whole.Jesus told him” thy faith hath made thee whole”, so while the other blind man was healed too, Bartimaeus ,s being made whole indicates spiritual healing as well as physical healing. The faith hath saved thee...Luke 18:42The other blind man was healed but not saved. The significance of Jesus standing still was to trigger a faith response in the blind man, something that may not have happened if Jesus came to him.
