I like the way the Amplified Classic Bible words the verse using the word “umpire”.
And let the peace (soul harmony which comes) from Christ rule (act as umpire continually) in your hearts..
Colossians 3:15a AMPC
Let Peace be Your Umpire
The umpire in a ball game decides if a player is “in” or “out.” Peace is to be the umpire that decides if something in your life should be in or out.
Many people do not enjoy peace because they are out of the will of God. They follow their own will rather than His will. They do what they feel like doing or what they think is right rather than follow God’s Word and to be led by peace.
If you have a decision to make, it might sound or feel good to do it but do you have peace about it? If you don’t have peace about it you should leave it alone. Later you may know why, or you may never know why.
Be led by peace. Do not buy something, especially a major purchase, if you do not have peace about it. No matter how much you want it, you will be sorry if you go against the leading of the Holy Spirit. Take time to acknowledge God in all your ways and He will direct your path (see Proverbs 3:6).
Enjoying a peaceful life is not possible if you disobey God’s leading and follow your own will. If you do obey His guidance and follow peace, you will be blessed.
PRAYER
Heavenly Father, I pray that the peace of God may rule in my heart with thanksgiving and praise, and if there is anything in my life that is preventing Your peace from guarding my heart today, I pray that You would show me. May I honor You in all I say and do and I pray that I may grow more like the Lord Jesus in my dealings with my brothers and sisters in Christ, so that Your peace may guard my heart and the peace of Christ may flow through me to others.
This I ask in Jesus name,
AMEN.
