"And there we saw the giants, the sons of Anak, which come of the giants: and we were in our own sight as grasshoppers, and so we were in their sight." (Numbers 13:33)Note those first six little words from the mouths of 10 of the 12 spies, "And there we saw the giants." Those words speak volumes when it comes to revealing our faith or our fear.At the Lord's command, we learn that 12 men, rulers from each tribe, were sent to search out the land of Canaan. God had something good in mind for His people. No more wilderness and no more waiting. The time had come to possess their possessions and that time was now!For 40 days they gave this Promised Land a good going over. They beheld its beauty and its bounty. They saw there a future of freedom and fortune. A place of richness and refuge indeed. The spies returned nearly six weeks later to reveal their findings with Moses. Why, even the whole community, lock, stock, and barrel, came running and rejoicing to hear their report. A report they felt that no doubt would be exciting and encouraging. The story of the spies revealed a place that was painted with magnificence and might. The details of the land were astonishing. This was to be their land. A land that God had deeded to them hundreds of years before. The victory was at hand. But then, here it comes, brace yourselves folks, from the depths of an unbelieving heart, the mouth speaks. For we hear ten of the spies buckling in unbelief with words that revealed their real confidence in God, "And there we saw the giants."You know folks, our Saviour has already deeded to each of us promises of a sure victory. The battle has already been won. God expects every one of us to possess our possessions. You and I are to make our way along that trail that our Guide has mapped out for each of us with a bold belief. A belief that declares, "...we are more than conquerors through him that loved us." (Romans 8:37) We're not simply conquerors; Praise God, for that verse shouts, "We are MORE THAN CONQUERORS."What will you see today when the sun rises and then finally sets at days end? Will you see the giants of a deadly disease striking at you or someone you love? Will it be the giant of a horrible habit yet unconquered? Maybe the giant of failing finances will pay you a visit. What will you see today? To be sure, 10 of the spies saw the giants. But what about Caleb and Joshua? Ah, Caleb and Joshua SAW GOD! And with that kind of vision that leads to victory, the impossible becomes the possible.Friends, what do we see? Are we among the majority today who whine and whimper saying, "And there we saw the giants", or are we found among the ranks of the minority who call out believing and behold the great and mighty things because they SEE GOD?
