That was literally the intention of the founders. They didn't want career poilittions they wanted workers, industrialists, regular people in congress.

Who would keep things going then? Congress is filled with federalists calling themselves Democrats or Republicans. All for the lobbyist dollar(that comes from Congress indirectly at tune of 10 for 1).
