You ever hear this bit of doggerel before? The old brown cow would have lived till nowIf she had saved her breath…But she was afraid, her hay wouldn't last all dayAnd she mooed herself to death.Somebody should have read Philippians 4:6 to that poor cow: "Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God", or "Do not be anxious about anything."Read that first part again. It says do not be anxious about anything. In other words, there is absolutely nothing a believer is justified in worrying about. Not. One. Single. Thing. That would include your health, your finances, your job, your marriage, your children, your sordid past, your prospects for marriage, etc. etc. etc. We lock our doors. We eat our vegetables. We pay our bills. We work hard at our jobs. We exercise reasonable concern—but then we leave the stuff that we have no control over, in the hands of almighty God—by way of thankful prayer. If your marriage is falling apart, you do everything in your power to be God's kind of person, and then you go to God and breathe a prayer—"O God, I am so thankful you are there to help me. I beg you for your sustaining grace so I can model Christ to my spouse…"And then sleep on it. The Psalmist says God never slumbers and sleeps, so no sense the two of you staying up. Leave it in His capable hands and get some rest.Consider this:"We mutter, we sputter,We fume and we spurt,We mumble and grumble,Our feelings get hurt.We can't understand things,Our vision grows dim,When all we needIs a moment with Him."
