"Pray without ceasing." (1 Thessalonians 5:17)Shouldn't prayer be the first thing we do when we wake up? Shouldn't prayer be the last thing we do before we go to sleep? Throughout the day, prayer should be the constant language of every believer. From the very moment we roll out of bed to greet the day, till the time comes when we roll back into bed and hit the hay, "Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need." (Hebrews 4:16)What determines our attitude, demands our attention, and demonstrates our affections each day? Is it communion with God? If not, why not?Through the finished work of Christ on the cross we have access to the only Being in the entire universe who has the wisdom we need for the decisions we make, the strength we need for the struggles we face, the love we need to show others we meet, and the godliness we need to live a life well pleasing unto Him.The question is NOT why Paul gives us such a difficult commandment to "pray without ceasing", but why we would not avail ourselves of the single greatest opportunity that Christ’s blood has now provided us. We should pray, not to appease some sense of guilt or obligation, but to marvel at the Presence of God's holiness, receive from the Hand of the One Who giveth to all men liberally, and to commune with the Lover of our souls.Pray to Him today. Pray to Him tomorrow. Pray to Him Who is alive forevermore. Pray to Him when there's joy unspeakable from Heaven. Pray to Him when there's jeering from that unjust crowd from Hell. Pray when you're full. Pray when you're famished. That great southern gentleman, General Robert E. Lee said, "Let prayer be our passion and let prayer be our practice."Friends, Pray, and pray again. "Pray without ceasing" and continue to pray.
