Scoffers Shamed at the Return of ChristI Peter 3: 3-4Knowing this first, that there shall come in the last days scoffers, walking after their own lusts, 4 And saying, Where is the promise of his coming? for since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation. Those who scoff at God and the gospel will be surprised if they don’t turn to Christ and His salvation. Our modern age does not negate God’s Word and its fulfillment in Christ coming to an end the world as we know it and beginning a reign of righteousness for all eternity. If anything, it fulfills the truth of God.Scoffing is nothing new. Peter and the early disciples encountered it. They had the personal experience of walking with our Lord and seeing Him transact salvation on the cross, rising and returning into heaven. Yet, they did not have the completed Bible as we have. With all our information and hopelessness without the Lord, scoffing continues and intensifies in our day and age.Crazy stuff is believed today by many regarding immorality. Atheism is increasing, a new generation is not going to church. Many ridicule and try to shame believers for our biblical beliefs. All their scoffing will destroy their lives here and in Hell. You can ridicule all you want, but Peter reminded them of Noah’s day when the same thing happened. He reminded them that God doesn’t measure time the way we do. When the flood came, they all perished in scoffing, which became a plea for mercy, but it was too late, as it will be when Christ returns.God is still in the soul-saving business through Christ. We must not lose heart. As the days get darker, God’s Word and His salvation in Christ should be brighter. I’m reminded of how the seasons change from cold to hot, dark in the morning to light earlier. So we can bank on Jesus' return through His Word and His presence in our lives. When He returns, all scoffing will end. We need to be faithful in sharing the gospel message no matter what the response.--- Dan Nelson
