Sin Can't Fly Under the Radar
"And this is the condemnation, that light comes into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light because their deeds were evil John 3:19.
Introduction
A few years ago, at the Rose Parade, people were stunned by a stealth airplane that began the parade route. It seemingly appeared out of nowhere and then vanished. The stealth bomber was designed to fly under the radar so it is not detected and can sneak in and out of enemy territory while doing as much damage as possible.
Main Thought of Scripture
The Bible is clear in declaring sin as the breaking of moral's law (I John 3:5). We are not left to define our own view of what we think sin is. It is not a topic up for negotiation. We must shun it and accept God's ultimate payment of Christ in our place for sin on the cross.
Many feel they can get away with sin. They feel they can do what they want because social morals have been loosened, if not reversed nowadays. Yet God will turn on the light, ultimately exposing our sin.
Jesus was speaking in universal terms to Nicodemus. He shared how His sacrifice on the cross would be the universal way people could come to God and be saved. He would deal with the payment of sin so we could be saved. Still, there would be many who would not accept Jesus as the light of the world, as their Saviour. God in the flesh would come into the world in the flesh and be rejected by many.
Jesus would be rejected because accepting Him means a new way of life that transforms us and frees us from the bondage of sin. Jesus said people would want to stay in the darkness, feeling they can fly stealthily when it comes to morality and our own different lifestyles we want to live.
Application
Ultimately, God turns the lights on and says, "Everybody out of the Pool". He exposes sin for what it is and convicts people that their sin must be paid for in this life and the next.
Suddenly, all the excuses, cover-ups, and rationalization will do no good. It is the same old story. No one beats the odds. It's like someone thinking they found a bargain item on sale only to find out the cost is far greater at the cash register than they realized.
Admonition
There is freedom in Christ to shake loose from sin, have the lights on, and be open and honest with God and people. When people find this freedom, they realize how much of a burden their sin was in their darkness when they thought they were flying stealthily. It not only makes our hearts pure; it gives us meaning and purpose and helps us to see God's purpose for our life. There is no greater way to live. Come into the light of God's love and be forever free.
