"I looked on my right hand, and beheld, but there was no man that would know me: refuge failed me; no man cared for my soul." (Psalm 142:4)
I decided to stop at McDonalds and have a fish filet and a coke. Seeing that the drive thru was backed up, I reluctantly parked the car and went inside. After receiving my food, I found a seat over by the window.
My attention however was drawn to a young man I guessed to be in his late 20s or early 30s. I watched him make the rounds there asking people for some change to buy something to eat. He approached me and asked if I could spare a little change. I said, " I'll go you one better, have a seat here and I'll buy you a Hamburger and a cup of coffee." I knew what he wanted the money for wasn't what he really needed. He looked at me for a few seconds and finally sat down. He looked like 40 miles of bad road and smelled like a Milwaukee saloon at closing time.
Just then a young lady employee appeared out of nowhere and told this guy he would have to leave because people were complaining. I looked at her and said," It's okay Miss, he's with me." She glared at me and finally said, ok then, you're responsible." I asked if she would bring me a hamburger and a cup of black coffee. I gave her 5 dollars and told her to keep the change for being so kind.
A few minutes later she was back with the food, and I gave it to this young man. As he gulped down the food, I asked him his name. He told me, Roy. I said, "Roy, let me ask you something. Why are you the way you are today." He knew there was no hiding his looks and lifestyle and said, "Because no one cares for me."
Well, folks, the door was ajar, and I wasn't about with God's help, to see it close. I said, "Roy, I want you to know that I care; and I want to introduce you to someone who not only cares but loves you more than you realize." He said, "Who's that?" What else was left, but to take a little stroll down that old road in Romans that leads Home along with some other verses.
Several minutes later, 31 year old Roy trusted Christ and I prayed a short prayer of thanksgiving for him right there in that fast food restaurant. I secured his address and told him I would stop by in a few days or so with some little books that would be good for him to read. I asked him if he had a Bible and he said he thought he had a little Bible he bought several years ago. I asked him to read the Gospel of John over the next few days and told him I'll bring a Bible Friday with me when I'm back in town in case you can't find yours.
As I stood to go, he stood and hugged me and said, "Sir, thank you for caring, I'll do my best not to drink another drop till I see you again." I said, " you're not going to drink another drop now or later, right?" He nodded.
You know friends, the Lord wants you and I to be laborers in His Harvest for Heaven, for there are millions of people just like Roy all around us who need someone, anyone to care. Do you care? "No man cared for my soul."
