"How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him." (Acts 10:38)
Take heart in those 5 words of understanding, "WHO WENT ABOUT DOING GOOD."
Have you ever noticed in your Bible studies how much of Christ's life was spent in doing good things?
Think back to that night long ago near Bethlehem when the Heavenly Host joined in with the Angel praising God and declaring, "Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, GOOD WILL toward men." (Luke 2:14) Oh, what GOOD WILL Heaven had in store for mankind.
Over a decade later, we read about Joseph and Mary searching high and low for their young 12 year old Son and finally find Him there in that Jerusalem Temple with an uncanny ability to ask and answer questions. His response to His Mother's frantic question, "...How is it that ye sought me? wist ye not that I must be about my Father's business?" Yes, our Saviour was always about His Father's business. Be it a COMFORTING WORD, a GENTLE TOUCH, or MIGHTY DEEDS; He was ever nigh to those who stood in need of this Great God of Goodness.
Walk with Jesus as He makes His way to a graveyard near Bethany. Hear Him as He comforts Martha and Mary concerning their brother Lazarus, "...I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live: And whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die. Believest thou this?" (John 11:25-26) Oh, what A COMFORTING WORD for two crying women.
See a woman who had spent all her living regarding her health issues but none the better. Notice as she elbows her way through a crowd who had gathered around Jesus. She reaches but for a touch of our Lord's garment. Ah, but Jesus knew right then and there that someone of faith had touched Him. When her touch of hope met the Touch of Heaven, we hear that Great Physician say,"...Daughter, thy faith hath made thee whole; go in peace, and be whole of thy plague." (Mark 5:34) Oh, what A GENTLE TOUCH.
After our Lord's crucifixion, we notice two weary travelers one day in Luke 24 as they make their way from Jerusalem to Emmaus. Can we not detect the grief of their hearts in the sadness in their words? All of a sudden, the risen Jesus joins this troubled pair who were chatting away about all things that had recently taken place in Jerusalem. "What things?' Jesus replied. "And they said unto him, Concerning Jesus of Nazareth, which was a prophet MIGHTY IN DEED and word before God and all the people:" (Luke 24:19) (caps mine) Oh, what MIGHTY DEEDS. What mighty deeds, too numerous to mention, did our Lord perform.
Out of the Ivory Palaces He willingly walked, and the Infinite became an Infant. For the next 33 years our Saviour did indeed have A COMFORTING WORD, A GENTLE TOUCH, and A MIGHTY DEED to offer to all who breathed the breath of life.
And He still does today! How do we know? Because Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever and He "who went about doing good", is still going about doing good at this very hour.
Four times we read in Psalm 107 where the writer says the same words reminding us of the goodness of God (Vs. 8,15,21,31).
Has He not been good to you, my friend?
