"And the blood shall be to you for a token upon the houses where ye are: and when I see the blood, I will pass over you, and the plague shall not be upon you to destroy you, when I smite the land of Egypt." (Exodus 12:13)"When I see the blood, I will pass over you." With those words, we hear the sermon that's above all sermons and it will forever be my favorite. The message is one of deliverance and the deliverer is none other than Almighty God.The Book of Exodus is God's Grand Story of deliverance. After the LORD showed the Egyptians that He was greater than all things they worshipped as gods, they still refused to let the Israelites go to worship Him. The last plague was the death of the firstborn. Now that ole hard-hearted Pharaoh, the nastiest of all nasty's, was worshipped as a god by the Egyptians, and his son would one day take his place. This was the last god of the Egyptians to be plagued.Ah, but God gave His people a way to escape the angel of death. They were to take an unblemished lamb and kill it and eat it. You'll notice that the command in verses 3, 4, and 5 of this 12th chapter was for each home to take a lamb (singular), not lambs (Plural). For God has determined that His Lamb is the only way of salvation (Acts 4:12). The instructions that followed were, "And they shall take of the blood, and strike it on the two side posts and on the upper door post of the houses, wherein they shall eat it." (Exodus12:7) When God saw the blood, He would pass over them. God would stand as their protector and shield. If the blood was applied, the destructive plague would not touch them. Here's Good News for us folks, "...Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world." (John 1:29) Praise God, the Lamb has been slain! The unblemished Lamb God had promised to Abraham that He would provide, died on Calvary and He is risen and ever liveth. His blood was spilled so that you and I by faith could mark the door posts of our hearts. When we do, we can be assured that He will hover over us and cover us. His Word of Truth will be our shield and buckler. Psalm 91:4 tells us, "He shall cover thee with his feathers, and under his wings shalt thou trust: his truth shall be thy shield and buckler."Friends, if you have trusted Christ as Saviour, you have nothing to fear as you walk through the valley of the shadow of death, for He sees the blood!
